FAQs
What happens during the “design phase”?
The design and engineering phase of building sidewalks, bike lanes, greenways or other similar infrastructure is a comprehensive process that combines environmental, community, and technical considerations. This phase ensures that the greenway is designed safely, sustainably, and in alignment with both ecological goals and the needs of the community.
Will the improvements be the same as what was built on Estes Dr?
We don’t know yet. They will probably have some similar parts. However, the current stage of the project will help us figure out what is possible, what is needed, and what the community wants to see built. What we do know at this point is that the improvements will be safe, connected, enjoyable, and designed to the highest standards.
Will this project continue to the Carrboro roundabout?
This project extends to Chapel Hill’s border with Carrboro which is at the railroad tracks on Estes Dr Extension. Carrboro has their own project that will complete the bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure to the traffic circle on North Greensboro St, however design for that portion is not yet underway.
