We invite you to learn and connect with your local government on Open Chapel Hill Day on June 28th from 10am-2pmIt’s a Townwide open house featuring facility tours, fun activities, and a chance to meet Town staffAnyone is welcome to participate at their own pace. 

You can start at any one of the seven Town locations. When you get there, you’ll pick up a passport that’ll guide you to each facility where you can get a site stamp. 


A Chapel Hill Transit bus will stop at each facility every 20 minutes for anyone interested in sitting back and relaxing. Anyone who rides the bus will be able to take it back to their starting point. Parking is available at most locations, but is limited at Fire Station 4. 

* Community members will also have a bonus opportunity to check out Orange Water and Sewer Authority’s (OWASA’s) Jones Ferry water treatment facility at 9am, before the Town event begins. More information on this available below and in the FAQs.

    You can participate in the Open Chapel Hill Day via bicycle! Our Office of Mobility and Greenways staff has put together this guide. It gives you directions to each site, shows where bike racks are located, and suggests segments where you may want to load your bike on a bus.

    Please note that e-bikes can’t be loaded onto Chapel Hill Transit buses.

    Two Chapel Hill Transit buses will be making a loop in the order of stops noted above. You can expect a bus every about every 20 minutes. You can hop on and hop off at each facility according to your interests.

    If you would like to learn more about Town landmarks, projects, and history as you travel to each site, an audio/visual tour will be available on the Town's YouTube channel.

    We’ve got activities for the whole family. Have you ever wanted to try your hand at operating a fire hose, what about archery? You can do that and so much more at Open Chapel Hill Day! The kids will enjoy the library’s scavenger hunt, riding bikes at Town Hall, and exploring all types of Town vehicles – from police cars to dump trucks!

    Interested in learning about where our community’s drinking water comes from and how it’s treated? Curious about the investments OWASA is making to improve their infrastructure and protect public health? Sign up to tour OWASA’s Jones Ferry Road Water Treatment Plant as part of Open Chapel Hill Day!

    The tour will be capped at 25 people. Registration is required.

    If you don’t want to drive for the day, a CHT bus will take you to Town Hall at 10am. It’ll return to OWASA from Town Hall at 2pm.
